WHAT IS A SAVE THE DATE?
Before you can follow Save the Date etiquette – you need to know what it is! In short, Save the Dates are announcements sent out once your wedding date it set. These are generally more informal than your wedding invitations.
WAIT – WHAT? I HAVE TO SEND OUT SOMETHING OTHER THAN AN INVITATION?
Nope! (But your guests will thank you!) Save the Dates are an optional part of the planning process. Save the Dates are a fun way to give your guests plenty of notice to schedule around your wedding. If you plan on having many out of town guests or are planning a destination wedding, then we highly recommend sending Save the Dates to allow time for your guests to make travel arrangements. Sending Save the Dates gets your guests involved and generates excitement around your wedding!
You should definitely plan on sending out a Save the Date if:
Your wedding date falls on or around a major holiday.
You are planning a destination wedding that requires your guests to make travel plans.
Many of your guests are coming from out of town.
SO, WHEN DO I SEND OUT THE SAVE THE DATE?
Save the Dates are generally sent out as soon as you have set a date and secured a venue. It is generally recommended that you send them out 6-12 months before your wedding.

Anyone on your guest list!
DO MY SAVE THE DATES & INVITATIONS HAVE TO MATCH?
While your Save the Date should be a reflection of you as a couple and help set the tone/theme for your event, they do not need to match your invitations or vice versa. Take the opportunity to send out something fun and unique!

WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU PUT ON THE SAVE THE DATE?
Just the basics! No RSVP is required for Save the Dates. Names, date & location is all that is needed. We often suggest adding a wedding website (if you have one), so that your guests can keep up to date with your wedding details. Also, adding “Invitation to follow” lets your guests know that they need not RSVP just yet – even if they are secretly jumping up and down with excitement to attend!
SO I STILL NEED TO SEND AN INVITATION IF I SEND A SAVE THE DATE?
Yes. Around 1-2 months before your actual wedding date you will need to send out a formal wedding invitation with in-depth details along with a response card for your guests to fill out and send back to you.
